Hi Everyone!
Hopefully, you’ve been staying warm during this cold snap we’ve been experiencing. It got down to -10 (F) in my area, which has been insane. I’ve been living under blankets and reading during this chilly weather because I can keep my arms snuggled and arm while still holding a book.
At one point the ice tricked me and I ended up falling and hitting my wrist too, so it’s slowed me down at the end of this month for things.
In-Person Events
I’ve been trying to plan out my year as I can so I can shout about where I’ll be and what I’ll be doing. My plans so far are:
June 1-2, 2024 - St. Louis Pagan Picnic, in St. Louis (confirmed)
August 9-11, 2024 - Pan Pagan, in Bloomington-Normal, IL (confirmed, and running the event)
September 20-21, 2024 - CIL-Con, in Effingham, IL (confirmed)
November 8-10, 2024 - WindyCon, in Oak Brook, IL (unconfirmed as yet, but planned)
I’m still looking at potential shows and events I can go to. I’ll keep you updated as I get them ironed out.
In the Wild
One of the hardest things for Indie Authors is getting into physical bookstores. Without the backing of publishers, it’s harder to get stores to give you the shelf space. Thankfully, there are a couple of independently owned bookstores in my area that were kind enough to give the trilogy a chance. They are:
The Book Table - Oak Park, Illinois, USA
The Looking Glass - Oak Park, Illinois, USA
If you’re not in my area, but internationally located, we’ve been lucky enough to also get our books in a few other places:
Central Books - Cebu City, Philippines; Davao City, Philippines; and Makati City, Philippines
Fully Booked - Bonifacio High Street, Metro Manila, Philippines and SM Mall of Asia, Metro Manila, Philippines
The Book Dragon - Stockton-on-Tees, England, UK
It’s an amazing opportunity to have our books on the shelf, and even more exciting when you look at a photo from the store and we’re shelved next to big-named authors like Colleen Hoover!
What Am I Reading?
My goal this year is to read more. Partially because I love reading, and partially because I have so many books on my TBR list and that list only gets longer as new titles are released. For January, I’ve read (or in the case of the last one on this list am still reading):
Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie - This book follows the cast of Fade to Black as they fill their thirteenth episode at a never-before-explored location, and the events that unfold after they arrive. It’s done in a found-footage style with interviews, journal entries, text chains, and scripts of the footage as it was recorded and found. Overall it was an okay read, mostly I loved the unique take on the storytelling format. You can read my full review on my blog.
From Bad to Cursed by Lana Harper - Book 2 in The Witches of Thistle Grove Series, we follow Isidora Avramov as she has to find out exactly what happened at the Beltaine Celebrations that leaves a Thorn witch hurt, while also battling the bubbling feelings for her co-investigator, Rowan Thorn. Overall, I’ve been loving this series, and a full review will be coming soon, so watch my blog for more on this book.
Faebound by Saara El-Arifi - I’m currently reading this one now. I’d hoped to get the book read before the official release because I’m lucky enough to have a beautiful Fairyloot edition from the December Box but life just didn’t allow it. It follows the story of two elven girls who were exiled and ended up in fae court. Elves and fae, I’m super excited to get deeper into this and once done, review to come on my blog.
What have you read this January? What are you planning to read in February? Leave me a comment and let me know!
