Hi Everyone!
Can you believe that we’re already into April for the 2024 year? It feels like time has flown so far this year. Spring has been a little crazy though, here in the Midwest, because we keep bouncing from snow to rain and the weather can’t figure out where it’s supposed to be going.
Hopefully, you’ve been having decent weather where you are, dear reader.
Eclipse
Were you able to see the eclipse on April 8th this year?
I was in Chicago, where we had 94% totality, and while the image above isn’t mine, it is a stunning representation of the day. Most of my building wandered out to watch it, and we all shared the solar glasses to be able to watch it on and off together.
Among Thorns and Stardust
Among Thorns and Stardust has been out for almost a month now! A big thank you to those who have supported its release!
If you didn’t know, it is a SciFi fairy tale retelling anthology with six wonderful ladies and myself. The anthology has seven short stories to dip your toes into. If you like SciFi, this is definitely for you. If you love fairy tale retellings, this is definitely for you!
The sky was never the limit.
What if Snow White lived in a virtual world where the lines of reality are too blurred? What if Cinderella's ugly step-sister was half made of metal and springs? What if Sleeping Beauty slipped into a hundred years of cryo sleep?
Seven authors join forces to reimagine your favorite fairy tales as new sci-fi adventures filled with space, tech, magic, charm, and of course: happily ever afters.
Just as a heads up - if you are looking for a paperback copy of the book, we would love it if you ordered it from any of the online retailers other than Amazon. By purchasing the physical copy from Barnes & Noble in the US it helps show the bookstore that the book is wanted and we have a better opportunity of being put on the shelf in the stores. Other stores operate in similar ways, which is why we’re requesting to consider buying the physical copy from somewhere other than Amazon.
Mist Gallows is on Audible!
The final installment of The Prophecies of Ragnarok is now on Audible! Just in case you were waiting to finish the trilogy via audible book, now you can! Jennifer Pratt, our narrator for Monster Ridge, joined us for this final installment of our trilogy to bring Victor and Silje’s journey to a close.
You can find all three books on Audible now!
Spring Book Festival
I attended the Spring Book Festival, held by Creative Slingers of Ink in Milford, MI on April 6th.
It was such a fun experience to join thirty-seven other authors I didn’t know and get together. I chatted with a few and it was fun because the organizer tried to break up genres unless you requested a table neighbor. So my fantasy novels were next to a poetry and short story writer. If you’re curious what authors were in attendance, they still have all of us up on their website!
And yes, I did bring a few of the other authors’ books home. Keep an eye on my Instagram to see what I ended up grabbing.
What Am I Reading?
I’m now at 21 books on my reading goals this year. The end of March and the beginning of April were a little slow because I was prepping for the show. The two books I read since my last newsletter were:
As Above, So Below by Dana Isaly - This was definitely an interesting read. The witchy vibes were perfect throughout this, and the pain the main character goes through in her lows was heartbreaking as we went through them.
Trigger warnings are a must for those considering to read this book, because the author doesn't shy away from her content but she also does a good job of addressing things in the story as well.A Kiss From a Dragon Lord by Charlotte Swan - A nice continuation of this Kiss from a monster world. I like the growth in both of our main characters, but especially our dragon as he learns how to love something other than the clicky clack gold. I also love the consent shown in the book, and the patience that she's shown as she learned what she wanted.
